| ****welcome back to random thoughts!****
today's topic: how does one cope with continuous bad experiences with travelling via mass transit?
now
when i say mass transit.. i'm talking about any real form of
transportation that does not involve me driving a car (who are we
kidding?! why would i drive anywhere to begin with!?) or being a
passenger in a car.. so for example, that would include airplanes,
buses, and trains...
i believe this tale can go all the way back
to when i was visiting my friend in maryland one labor day weekend with
my sister - and the trip down was fine.. just peachy!.. but the trip
back.. oh man! we are on the highway.. driving through baltimore - and
what happens? we start to see smoke coming from behind the bus.. OH
GREAT.. the driver asks that we evacuate the bus because of engine
trouble.. ***ya think?!***.. and another bus.. oh yes, and it was
smaller - picks us up to drive us to the nearest bus depot as we wait
for a replacement.. and what do they announce on the PA system? "for
all passengers that came in on the burning bus......" just fabulous -
fabulous!
then there was the 2nd trip via bus down to maryland -
and the bus driver and a female passenger get into an argument about
the woman talking on the phone... the driver initially pulled into the
divider in the middle of the HIGHWAY...**you know..the little triangle
portion before the road splits off?** trying to tell the woman that if
she's gonna sit in the front seat, she can't talk on the phone - or she
has to move to the back.. the lady starts mouthing off about her rights
and what not.. and before we know it - we're sitting in the SAME
baltimore bus depot as above.. as we wait for the greyhound manager and
the police to show up.. because the drive wants the woman off the bus,
and she is refusing.. explaining that she is an EDUCATED person and has
rights to talking on the phone.. why she had to express that she's
educated? i dont' know... i ended up splitting a cab with 3 other
passengers on the bus to drive us into DC..
earlier this year
- for some reason that i can't explain - i thought it'd be a good idea
to take the amtrak up to boston to visit my friends during the middle
of a snow storm.. oh yea - i'm a smart one!.. the trip which should've
taken 3 1/2 hrs ends up being like 6 hrs because of frozen tracks ..
and then what happens?? the train pulls into a station 2 stops away the
city saying that it cannot go any farther.. there is flooding in the
boston train station - and we're just sitting on the tracks at like
11pm because all trains ahead of us are backed up.. thankfully - we
were at a close enough station.. where i called my friend - she had to
google where the station was to come and get me.. niiiiiiiice..
but
its not just ground transportation!!!!!! this past april - i was on my
way to CA for a mini vacation and a wedding.. and i was able to finagle
a coworker to drive me to the airport **yay me! i saved $40** i got
there in plenty of time to check my luggage in (stinkin' 3 oz of
liquids rule - my unruly hair obviously does not agree with those
rules..very high maintenance...very!) and what happens?? flight is
delayed 50 mins... than we board.. and we're sitting waiting in line to
take off for another 30 mins.. what time should i have landed in
burbank?? 10pm.. what time do i actually land?? 11:30.. and then i get
my luggage at 11:45.. blah!
and the most recent travelling
ridiculousness?? and i have to admit - this is entirely my own fault
because i don't read details.. details.. who needs them?! and yes, i do
accounting for a living.. hahahahahah.. i'm on a bus to providence for
labor day weekend. i thought i was being so smart in catching an
earlier bus out of new york.. but the bus? without realizing it.. is a
local bus.. which means we don't drive straight from manhattan to
providence. which should only take about 3 1/2 hrs.. INSTEAD.. it made
stops all along connecticut.. we went to stamford, bridgeport, new
haven, new london, mohegan sun, foxwoods.. and with all the holiday
weekend traffic on the highway.. 7 1/2 hrs later. i got to providence..
and that my friends..is how i travel... enjoy your laughs!!!

today's topic: what else? the strange things that has happened to me while in manhattan...
i know there are all types of strange things that happen to various people all over manhattan - but for some reason, i feel like i'm the only one who shares these experiences with you guys - i never get any stories from you.. whats going on?!!?
situation #1: i now live in chelsea - notorious in manhattan for habitation of a great majority of new york city's gay population. it's up and coming with new apt buildings going up, drawing in the more hip crowd - but little do people know that there are also quite a few low income housing in the same area.. which is good - shows the diversity of the city..adds a little flavor. so anyways - i was walking home one day from the subway - on my way home from work.. i see this guy riding a bike towards me - the sidewalk isn't exactly super wide - but there was enough room for both of us to pass without hitting each other.. LET ME TELL YOU.. hitting was the last thing on this guy's mind.. he passes me, and next thing i know - I FEEL A HAND GRAB MY BUTT!!!!! and it wasn't one of those light, barely touched grab..my friends, it was a FULL ON GRAB.. i was so shocked and just had no idea what to say, do, or anything! that and the fact that he was on a bike, and long gone before it registered in my head as to what happened.
situation #2: i was waiting in front of a store with my sister - waiting for our other sister to come pick us up.. not sure where we were going - but probably some family dinner.. we're constantly eating! but that's besides the point - this guy comes up to u on his rollerblades and points down - says something under his breath.. seriously, my sister and i hardly heard him - and we didn't have headphones in or anything.. and we thought he was telling us we dropped something - we looked down but saw nothing. the 2 of us didn't say anything or look back at the guy - but he pointed down again and then we heard him! "i like your toe nails"... pointing to my toes.. um.. WEIRD!! ok, so they had red nail polish on and i was wearing flip flops.. but seriously!!.. so i say thank you, and he rolls on to wherever he was going... i look at my sister - and she just shakes her head, saying she wasn't quite sure how to respond to that..
*sigh*.. only me...
